Transportation Supervisor

Job Description:

  • Supervise and coordinate activities involved in scheduling, operation and maintenance of vans, trucks, and automobiles; operate vehicles when necessary.
  • Supervise and coordinate vehicle rental activities; assist customer in determining type of vehicle to meet customer's needs; apprise customer of rental charges; schedule rental, complete rental form and rental envelope, and bill customer accordingly; prep and clean vehicle prior to rental.
  • Supervise and coordinate fuel service activities; monitor fuel deliveries and fuel supplies; order fuel when needed; change prices on fuel pumps as needed.
  • Plan and schedule work for lower level personnel ensuring proper distribution of work assignments and adequate manning of vehicles; supervise various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, vacation schedules, and overtime work schedules.
  • Maintain operational records including, but not limited to, van rental report and daily report on fuel tank deliveries; verify accuracy of these and other records and ensure that records are properly maintained.
  • Assist in the development of preventive maintenance programs for vehicles and equipment; inspect vehicles to ensure that they are in safe and proper operating condition; schedule maintenance and repairs for vehicles.
  • Train and instruct employees in the safe and proper performance of the work element, operations of vehicles, and use of equipment and facilities as needed; monitor performance and provide follow-up instruction where needed; give Class B license road tests to bus drivers as needed.
  • Review and evaluate new and improved transportation-related products and services, analyze equipment requirements, recommend purchase of new products, supplies and equipment.
  • Review and evaluate procedures and recommend methods for increasing efficiency and cost reduction.

Required Qualifications at this Level


Work requires the ability to provide instructions, prepare reports and coordinate the work of others generally equivalent to a high school education.


Work requires three years experience in transportation services.


North Carolina Class B driver's license with air and passenger endorsement required.
